Southern Maine Take the Little East Crown as Bucknell Edge Lock Haven in Overtime
Tuesday night had a second act beyond the Landmark first-round games, and it was all about the postseason taking shape elsewhere too.
Southern Maine had the biggest prize of the night. The Huskies beat Plymouth State 3-1 in Gorham, with Allie Flagg, Mackenzie Hall and Lizalynn Boudreau all scoring, to clinch the Little East regular-season title and the number one seed. That means a first-round bye and a home semi-final on Thursday 5 November. Plymouth State will have to go the long way round now.
Elsewhere, Bucknell needed overtime to get past Lock Haven 3-2. Lock Haven’s Haley Kvacky scored off a penalty corner in the final minute to force the extra session, but Bucknell found the golden goal and Lock Haven head to Davidson on Friday still looking for a win to finish on a high. Eastern Connecticut closed out their home schedule with a 6-0 win over UMass Boston, a balanced attack doing the damage, and Saint Anselm edged Franklin Pierce 2-1 in Northeast-10 play, Brynnlea Chaisson scoring for Franklin Pierce and Zoe Noorlag making 11 saves in a losing cause.
Saturday is when it gets serious in the Landmark, with Wilkes against Susquehanna the pick of it. But Tuesday’s other results will shape plenty of brackets too.
