Eleven goals last weekend. Now Surbiton get East Grinstead under the lights
Eleven. Surbiton put eleven goals past Buckingham last weekend, 11-0, the kind of scoreline that makes the rest of the league sit up a bit straighter.
So what do the fixture gods serve them next? East Grinstead at home, under the lights, last game of the day. Lovely.

Why Surbiton v East Grinstead is the one
East Grinstead aren’t arriving as anybody’s punching bag. They beat Hampstead & Westminster 2-1 last weekend, a result with some weight to it, and they’ll happily turn this into the kind of tight, niggly game Surbiton didn’t have to play against Buckingham.
Surbiton’s attack is clearly in a mood, though. Eleven goals in a game doesn’t happen by accident, and EG’s defence is about to get the hardest examination in English club hockey right now. Our take? Surbiton win it, but nobody’s scoring eleven.
The rest of Saturday
Buckingham’s week doesn’t get easier. After the 11-0, they travel to Durham, and Durham won 3-1 at the University of Nottingham last time out. That’s a long bus ride home if it goes wrong again.
Loughborough Students are quietly doing good things. They won 2-0 at Bowdon last weekend and now host Hampstead & Westminster, who need a response after the East Grinstead defeat. Bowdon, meanwhile, get no rest either, with Wimbledon coming to Cheshire.
Reading are back at Sonning Lane against the University of Birmingham, and Nottingham host Teddington in the 4pm slot before the day closes at Surbiton.
Over in the men’s Premier Division, last weekend’s results told their own story: Old Georgians beat Holcombe 5-2, Surbiton won 6-1 at Cardiff & Met, East Grinstead edged Hampstead & Westminster 3-2, Oxted beat Bowdon 5-2 and Beeston drew 4-4 with the University of Exeter. Goals everywhere you look, which is more or less the Premier Division’s brand at this point.
