Eleanor Luft Runs the Show as Unbeaten Tufts Clinch the NESCAC Top Seed

BySportsCursor October 28, 2026October 28, 2026

Tufts keep finding new heroes, and this week it was Eleanor Luft’s turn. The junior midfielder was named NESCAC Player of the Week on Monday after figuring in all three Tufts goals in a 3-2 win at Williams on Saturday, the result that clinched the conference’s No. 1 seed.

Tufts came from behind twice to win it, and Luft was in the middle of every twist. She assisted the first equaliser, a penalty-corner goal that made it 1-1 late in the first quarter. After Williams went ahead again, she scored from a corner herself to make it 2-2 with 2:35 left in the first half. Then, with 2:17 left in the game, she set up junior Riley Schmidt’s winner. Three goals, three Luft involvements, one four-point game. It was the first four-point game of her career, and it came on the day Tufts needed it most.

The numbers tell you this isn’t a one-off flash. Luft has started all 14 games for head coach Tina Mattera’s side, and her two goals and four assists for eight points are already a career high. Her 38 shots are second on the team behind sophomore Eleanor Helm’s 60. Tufts are 14-0 overall and 9-0 in the NESCAC, and they closed the regular season at home against Bowdoin on Tuesday night before hosting a conference quarterfinal on Saturday. Win that, and they host the semifinals and the championship game on 7-8 November.

This is Tufts’ third Player of the Week honour in four weeks, after Helm on 5 October and goalkeeper Isabel Ginns on 12 October. When three different players win the award in a month, you’re not looking at one star carrying a team. You’re looking at a squad with depth, form and belief, and right now, nobody in the NESCAC looks better placed to turn a perfect regular season into a title.

Belgian Women: Gantoise Stay Top, Léopold Still Can’t Buy a Point
BySportsCursor October 19, 2026October 19, 2026

No blowouts in Belgium on Sunday. Just the champions doing champion things, and a team at the bottom running out of road. Gantoise did the minimum, and it was enough Gantoise 1-0 Wellington. One goal, three points, top of the table defended. The defending champions haven’t been smashing teams this season — 15 goals in…
