Bowman’s Overtime Winner Caps Dartmouth’s Third Straight Win Over Bryant

Dartmouth made Bryant wait for it, and then made them pay for it.

The Big Green dominated almost everything about Sunday’s senior day game at Chase Field in Hanover, except the scoreboard. They outshot Bryant 22-5. They held the Bulldogs without a shot in the entire second quarter. And for most of the afternoon, one goal was all they had to show for it.

That goal was a good one. Alex Sewell finished off a feed from Lucia Campaño at 14:31 in the first quarter, the first goal of her career, and Dartmouth carried a 1-0 lead into half-time feeling like the game was theirs. Bryant had other ideas. Maddy DeFilippo equalised at 37:55 off an assist from Valentina Funes, and suddenly a comfortable afternoon was a contest again.

Dartmouth threw everything at the winner in the fourth quarter, outshooting Bryant 7-1, but goalkeeper Maud van Lierop kept turning them away. Campaño fired two shots in four seconds and both were saved. Ruby Walsh nearly won it in the final 40 seconds with two more efforts, and van Lierop saved those too.

Overtime belonged to the home side from the first whistle. Dartmouth earned five penalty corners and put eight shots on goal in the extra period, and Ella Bowman finally broke through late in overtime after back-to-back corners set up by Riley Dumigan and Ava Russo. Bowman had already been denied from a penalty stroke in the extra period, so the winner felt earned.

It’s Dartmouth’s third straight win, and it caps a strong week. They beat Cornell on Friday with four second-half goals, their first season with two Ivy League wins since 2023. At 6-9 overall, the record still doesn’t sparkle, but the direction of travel does. They close the regular season at Brown on Saturday, and on this form, they won’t be anyone’s easy final game.
