Hoofdklasse Round 7: Perfect Amsterdam Meet Bloemendaal as the Title Race Tightens
Round 6 shook the table up. Round 7, on Sunday 1 November, could shake it again.
The game of the day is at the Wagener Stadium, where Amsterdam take on Bloemendaal. Amsterdam are the only perfect side left in the men’s Hoofdklasse, six wins from six and 18 points, and they just went to Klein Zwitserland and won 3-1. Bloemendaal sit third on 13 points after Oranje-Rood edged them 3-2 in Eindhoven on Sunday, and they’ll know that a second straight defeat hands Amsterdam real daylight. For our money, Amsterdam are favourites, but Bloemendaal have already put nine past Schaerweijde this season and they don’t lose two in a row often.
Den Bosch, second on 16 points, host Klein Zwitserland at the Oosterplas. Den Bosch were the biggest road winners of Round 6, winning 5-2 at HDM, and Klein Zwitserland have made a habit of being awkward at home without quite turning it into points. If Den Bosch win and Amsterdam slip, the gap at the top is down to a point.
The other heavyweight tie is at the Hazelaarweg, where defending champions Rotterdam host Oranje-Rood. Rotterdam beat Tilburg 3-0 on Sunday but sit seventh on just six points, which tells you how strange their season has been so far. Oranje-Rood are fourth on 13 points with a game in hand, and they carry the confidence of beating Bloemendaal into this one. A Rotterdam win drags the champions back into the play-off conversation. An Oranje-Rood win, and the champions are in real trouble.
Elsewhere, Kampong host Schaerweijde at De Klapperboom. Kampong are fifth on 10 points, also with a game in hand, and they lost a tight one 3-2 at Pinoké on Sunday. Schaerweijde are still without a point after six games, and a trip to Utrecht is not where that run looks like ending. SCHC host HDM in Bilthoven, and Tilburg host Pinoké at the Oude Warande, where Tilburg are still chasing their first win of the season after six defeats and just two goals scored.
Round 6 results, for reference: Oranje-Rood 3-2 Bloemendaal, Pinoké 3-2 Kampong, Rotterdam 3-0 Tilburg, HDM 2-5 Den Bosch, Klein Zwitserland 1-3 Amsterdam, Schaerweijde 0-1 SCHC.
Six games, one Sunday, and the top of the table could look very different by the evening.
