Surbiton Hit Reading for Six as Matchday 8 Stays Perfect
Surbiton just keep doing this. Six goals, none conceded, another Saturday, another win.
The leaders beat Reading 6-0 at the Select Car Leasing Stadium on Matchday 8, and they were already two up by half time. Eight games, eight wins, top of the women’s Premier Division, and nobody has found a way to slow them down yet.
Loughborough Students had the day’s other big scoreline. They beat Durham University 7-0, a result that says plenty about where both sides are right now. Durham are having a tough season, and Loughborough took full advantage.
East Grinstead kept their push for a top-six place going with a 5-1 win over Buckingham. That’s the race behind Surbiton that matters most now, with Phase Two coming up and the cut for the top six getting closer every week. A five-goal win at home is exactly the kind of result that keeps you in it.
Hampstead & Westminster beat Nottingham University 2-1, Wimbledon edged Teddington 3-2 away, and Bowdon won 4-2 at Birmingham University. Six games, six results, and the table barely moved at the top. Surbiton stay clear. Everyone else is fighting for the places behind them.
In the men’s division, only one Matchday 8 score had come through by late Saturday night: Beeston 2-2 Oxted, level at 1-1 at the break. The big one, Surbiton against Wimbledon, two unbeaten sides, was still to be confirmed. Both came into the weekend without dropping a point all season. Somebody has to blink eventually, and whenever that result lands, it’s the one that will shape the men’s title race.
