Rowan’s Sixth Straight NJAC Crown Leads Friday’s US College Leftovers
The big Friday results got their roundup already. These are the five that slipped past it, and the headline one is a dynasty.
Rowan are NJAC regular-season champions again. The 10th-ranked Profs beat SUNY New Paltz 3-0 in Glassboro, and that sealed a sixth straight NJAC regular-season title. Ella Toll had a goal and an assist, Sydney Kowalczyk got things started, and Rowan’s 14th consecutive win made them 14-3 overall and a perfect 6-0 in conference. They’ll be the top seed in the NJAC Championship and host the semi-finals on 4 November, chasing a sixth consecutive conference tournament title to go with the regular-season crown. Six straight regular-season titles is not a hot streak anymore. It’s a programme.
Delaware’s win was the comeback of the night. The Blue Hens trailed UC Davis 2-0 and won 3-2, with Livia van’t Hek scoring the winner in the 56th minute. That’s three straight wins for Delaware, now 8-7 on the season, and winning from two down tells you more about a team than a comfortable win ever does.
Yale kept it clean. The Bulldogs beat Penn 2-0, both goals coming in the third quarter, in what was Penn’s final road game of the season. Roanoke’s 1-0 win over Bridgewater was tighter still: Gisele Harris scored the only goal in the third quarter, and goalkeeper Chloe Miller made six saves to protect it.
And a record worth noting from Miami (Ohio)’s 5-0 win over Kent State: Golden Flashes sophomore Ryli Zee made four defensive saves in the game, taking her to 13 for the season — a new Kent State single-season record, and the most in NCAA Division I this year. She’s now two short of the programme’s career record. Defensive saves don’t make highlight reels, but a record is a record.
