HC Melbourne Women Hit Tassie for Six in Friday Night Double-Header

Six goals, and a second half the Tigers can actually build on. HC Melbourne’s women beat the Tassie Tigers 6-1 on Friday night in Melbourne, the second half of the Friday double-header at the State Netball Hockey Centre.

Melbourne came into the night second on the ladder, after a 2-0 win over Canberra Chill through Zali Ward and Sophie Murphy. Tassie had lost a shootout to Brisbane Blaze the week before, after a 3-3 draw in which Holly Pearson scored twice. The gap between the sides showed early, but the Tigers’ second half was much improved, and that’s the part they’ll take back to Hobart.

Perth Thundersticks’ women are still the standard. They’re unbeaten after four rounds, and they host Brisbane Blaze on Saturday. Melbourne’s win keeps them right in the finals hunt, with two rounds of the pool stage to go after this weekend.

Round 5 continues on Saturday, with NSW Pride hosting Canberra Chill at Sydney Olympic Park and Perth hosting Brisbane. On Sunday, Melbourne Cobras play Adelaide Fire in Bendigo. The men’s game on Friday night went Melbourne’s way too, 5-1, so it was a clean sweep for the hosts.
