Chhattisgarh League Night 6: Knights Chase Four From Four as the Semi-Final Race Tightens

Three nights to go in the league stage, and the semi-final race is doing what it should do. Getting tense.

Night 6 in Raipur opens with the form team. Nyayadhani Knights have won all three of their games, and they did it in style last time out, beating Bailadila Bulls 4-1 with drag-flicker Chirag scoring a hat-trick. Jaskaran Singh got the Bulls’ only goal that night, which tells you plenty about where the Bulls’ season has gone. They are still without a win, and they are running out of nights to fix it.

The Knights face Chakradhar Champions at 5:00pm PKT (5:30pm IST) on Tuesday, and the Champions come in off a mixed bag. They lost 3-1 to Mainpat Titans on Monday night, after the Titans had already beaten Rajdhani Royals 5-2 in the previous round. So the Champions know exactly what a good side looks like right now, and they know the Knights are better than good. Four from four would all but seal top spot for the Knights with two games to spare.

The second game of the night might be the more interesting one. Rajdhani Royals meet Sanskardhani Strikers at 7:00pm PKT (7:30pm IST), and both sides need the points for different reasons. The Royals have been up and down, beaten 5-2 by the Titans after a bright start to the league, and they cannot afford another slip with the semi-finals on Saturday. The Strikers, meanwhile, showed their firepower in that wild 5-5 draw with the Bulls on Monday, when Jaskaran scored all five Bulls goals and the Strikers still couldn’t put them away. A side that scores five and doesn’t win is a side with a problem at the back, but it’s also a side nobody wants to face when the goals are flowing.

Four teams go through to the semi-finals on 31 October, with the final on 1 November, Chhattisgarh State Foundation Day. The Knights look safe. Everyone else is still playing for their place. Tuesday night in Raipur should tell us a lot about who actually wants one.
