Sandeep’s Brace Ends Chakradhar’s Unbeaten Run as Jaskaran’s Five Still Can’t Win It for Bulls
Monday night in Raipur gave us two very different kinds of drama, and one very clear message: nobody’s unbeaten run is safe in this league.
Mainpat Titans are the team that ended Chakradhar Champions’ perfect start, winning 3-1 in Match No. 9 of the Chhattisgarh Hockey League. And they did it by taking away the one thing Chakradhar rely on most. SV Sunil, the veteran playmaker, barely got a sniff all night. Every time he drifted towards the circle, there were four Titans defenders around him, cutting off the supply line to the forwards.
The first quarter passed without a goal, which suited Mainpat just fine. Then Yuvraj Walmiki produced a moment of real class in the second quarter, shrugging off his markers, beating a couple of defenders and finishing past goalkeeper Alfaz Khan. Chakradhar led. For four minutes.
Sandeep Kumar levelled from a penalty corner almost immediately, and that changed the whole feel of the game. Then came the moment that broke Chakradhar’s hearts. Defender Anand Lakra scooped the ball forward from his own half, it dropped in front of goalkeeper Vaibhav Singh Chandel, and Sahil Xaxa got the crucial touch to deflect it home. Against the run of play, Mainpat led going into the final quarter.
Sandeep finished the job with his second penalty corner of the night to make it 3-1, and that was that. Chakradhar’s first defeat of the season, and Mainpat up into second place on the points table. The title race just got a lot more interesting.
If that was the tactical masterclass, the night’s other game was pure chaos. Bailadila Bulls and Sanskardhani Strikers played out a breathless 5-5 draw, and Jaskaran Singh scored all five of the Bulls’ goals. All five. One man, one team, still no win.
That’s the cruel part. A five-goal haul in any other game wins you the match and probably the headlines for a week. Here it only earned a point, because the Strikers kept coming back too. Both sides are still winless in CHL 2026, and both will look at Monday night as the one that got away.
For our money, Mainpat are the story now. They’ve worked out how to stop the league’s best player, they’ve got a drag-flicker in form in Sandeep, and they’re sitting second with the wind behind them. Chakradhar, meanwhile, have to prove the unbeaten run ending was a blip, not the start of a slide.
