Chhattisgarh Hockey League Night Two: Titans and Bulls Share Six Goals, Champions Win a Ten-Goal Thriller

India’s newest league is two nights old and already delivering. Friday night in Raipur brought a 3-3 draw and a 6-4 thriller, and the Chhattisgarh Hockey League is starting to feel like appointment viewing.

Mainpat Titans 3, Bailadila Bulls 3. The first game of the night finished all square, both sides trading goals until neither could find a winner. A draw that probably frustrates both camps and entertains everyone else — which, for a league in its first week, is exactly the right outcome.

Chakradhar Champions 6, Sanskardhani Strikers 4. Then the nightcap went wild. The Champions led 2-0 after the first quarter and 4-3 at the three-quarter mark, but the Strikers kept coming, and it took until the final quarter for the Champions to pull clear and seal a 6-4 win. Ten goals, lead changes, and a finish worthy of the billing. The Strikers’ post-match graphic read “heads held high,” which tells you everything about how close this was.

The league so far

Two nights, and the pattern is set: goals, and plenty of them. The opener saw Nyayadhani Knights beat Rajdhani Royals 2-1, and now a draw and a ten-goal game. Six Olympians are captaining the six franchises, Sardar Singh fronted the launch, and the whole thing is live on JioHotstar with NTPC, Adani, Vedanta, Balco and SBI backing it.

For our money, this is the most interesting domestic experiment in Indian hockey right now. A state league with real money, real broadcast and real former internationals attached — if the hockey keeps delivering nights like this one, it won’t stay a curiosity for long.
