The Chhattisgarh Hockey League finally has its last four, and the Bulls earned their place the hard way.
Bailadila Bulls thrashed Chakradhar Champions 6-2 in the last league game in Raipur on Friday, a win they simply had to have. Anand opened the scoring inside the first minute with a reverse flick, Jaskaran Singh scored four, including two from penalty corners, and Gopal’s goal off a penalty-corner rebound took the Bulls’ goal difference to +2 and sealed the spot. Daleshwar Yadav even saved a penalty stroke from Yuvraj Walmiki along the way. For the Champions it was heartbreak: Khogeshwar Bag and Walmiki scored late consolations, but captain SV Sunil’s side couldn’t find anyone on the end of his passes in the circle, and they’re out.
The result also confirmed the fourth semi-finalist. Sanskardhani Strikers, who had already beaten Mainpat Titans 4-0 in their last league game thanks to an Ashish Tani Purti hat-trick that took his tournament tally to 12 goals, went through on goal difference (+2) once the Bulls won. So the semi-finals are: top qualifiers Nyayadhani Knights against Sanskardhani Strikers, and Bailadila Bulls against Mainpat Titans. The final date is now unconfirmed (see the update above).
Now the wrinkle, and it’s one worth flagging plainly. The original fixture list had the semi-finals on Saturday, October 31, at 5:30pm and 7:30pm. The IANS report of Friday’s game says the Knights meet the Strikers “on Sunday” at 5:30pm, followed by Bulls v Titans at 7:30pm. Both can’t be right alongside a Sunday final, so something has moved or been misreported. Don’t travel on either version alone: check the league’s channels on Saturday morning before heading to the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Hockey Stadium. The pairings are certain. The day, for now, is not.
