Pakistan in action at the Sultan of Johor Cup 2026

PHF Sets 31 October for Board and Congress Meetings as Azlan Shah and Nations Cup Planning Tops the Agenda

Pakistan hockey’s administrators have a date with themselves, and it’s a big one.

The PHF Executive Board and Congress Council will both meet in Lahore on 31 October, Business Recorder reported on Thursday, with the federation’s upcoming international commitments at the top of the agenda: the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in Ipoh from 21 to 28 November, and the FIH Nations Cup that follows in the season.

The machinery is already moving. PHF president Mohiuddin Ahmad Wani chaired a national selection committee meeting in Lahore on Wednesday, with chief selector Akhtar Rasool in attendance, and this week he also met the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman to discuss cooperation between the two federations, including the possible use of PCB facilities and joint promotion of hockey.

Read the week together and it’s a federation trying to look organised at exactly the moment it needs to. Pakistan’s men have a real winter in front of them: Azlan Shah in November with a six-team field of Australia, Canada, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan and the United States, then the Nations Cup, which carries promotion to the Pro League for the winner. Those tournaments are where Pakistan’s ranking and relevance get rebuilt, or don’t.

Governance meetings don’t win matches. But squads, tours and budgets all come out of rooms like the one booked for 31 October, and the Azlan Shah squad call should be the first visible product of it. That’s the date to watch after the meeting: when the travelling party for Ipoh is named, we’ll know how serious the planning season has been.

Background: the Azlan Shah Cup 2026 field is confirmed, Guangdong’s tour produced a shoot-out result against Pakistan Army this week, and tournament weeks run through our Live Centre.
