Field Hockey Canada Opens Hall of Fame Nominations and Calls for 2028 Masters World Cup Bids
Canadian hockey has two deadlines worth circling, and neither of them is a match.
Field Hockey Canada has opened nominations for the next class of its Hall of Fame. Players, coaches, officials, umpires and builders are all eligible, and the window closes on 19 November. The Hall’s recent classes show the standard: the 2025 inductees were announced last November, and the 2024 class was headlined by women’s national team figures Andrea Rushton and Thea Culley. If there’s a name from Canadian hockey’s history you think belongs on that wall, the federation is literally asking you to send it in.
The second call is for the masters players. Canada is collecting expressions of interest for the 2028 World Masters Hockey World Cups, which run across two European stops: Rotterdam in the Netherlands from 22 July to 1 August 2028, and Brasschaat in Belgium from 6 to 16 August 2028. Age groups run from Over-35 to Over-80, for men and women. Canadian players who want in need to register their interest by 31 October this year, a deadline close enough that it is not a drill.
There’s also a governance date on the FHC calendar: its 2027 Board of Directors application window runs to 15 November.
None of this makes a highlight reel. All of it is the sport’s plumbing: honour the people who built it, pick the people who’ll run it, and send its oldest players to a World Cup in Rotterdam and Brasschaat. Masters hockey in particular keeps growing because the deal is simple and good: keep playing, keep travelling, keep representing your country at 45, 60, 75. Canada’s asking who’s in. The answer’s due by Halloween.
Canada are busy on the pitch too: Friday brings Malaysia v Canada at the Johor Cup, and in November they head to Ipoh for the Azlan Shah Cup.
