Matla Scores Four as Den Bosch Stay Perfect, Jansen Hits 150 in SCHC Rout — Hoofdklasse Women Round 8

Eight games, eight wins. And now a striker who’s scored 20 goals in those eight games.

Frederique Matla scored all four as Den Bosch beat Rotterdam 4-0 on Sunday, and the champions look further away from the rest every week. That’s 20 goals in eight matches for Matla, and she’s now scored in each of the last 14 match rounds. Thirty-nine goals in that run. Rotterdam came in on a five-match unbeaten run. It ended without a whimper.

Den Bosch have also kept seven straight clean sheets and won 14 league games in a row. They’re on 24 points, perfect, and nobody’s laying a glove on them yet.

The chasing pack isn’t standing still, though. SCHC went to HDM and won 5-0, and the headline there belongs to Yibbi Jansen. Her second goal of the day was her 150th top-flight goal for SCHC, and her 200th official goal for the club. Louise Dewaet opened the scoring with her first for the club, Jip Dicke added her sixth of the season, and Maud van den Heuvel completed the rout. SCHC stay second on 21 points.

Amsterdam are third on 19 after a 4-0 win at HGC. Imke Verstraeten scored twice from penalty corners either side of half-time, and even had a penalty stroke saved by Julia Remmerswaal. Ivy Tellier and Freeke Moes got the others.

Hurley climb, Victoria sink

Hurley are the movers of the round. They beat Kampong 3-0, Romée Corver opening the scoring in the 12th minute before Dymph Luttge and Philine Vinkesteijn added penalty corners, and that lifts them to fourth. They’ve overtaken Rotterdam, who drop to fifth.

Bloemendaal beat Victoria 3-1 in the day’s other game. Victoria led early through a Claire Moerman penalty stroke, but Ryanne van Dooijeweerd levelled and Malou Nanninga put Bloemendaal ahead from the spot before Ankelein Baardemans sealed it late, her fifth of the season. Victoria stay bottom on zero points, 12 straight defeats and winless in 16 top-flight games. That’s a long way back from here.

Pinoke and Oranje-Rood shared a 2-2 draw. Sam Luttmer and Lana Kalse scored for Pinoke, Thirsa Kho and Merel Voerman for Oranje-Rood. Both sides sit on nine points, seventh and eighth.

HDM’s day was grim. A 5-0 home defeat, their sixth straight home loss, and they haven’t scored in their last three home games. They sit tenth.

Round 8 results, Sunday 8 November: Bloemendaal 3-1 Victoria; Den Bosch 4-0 Rotterdam; HDM 0-5 SCHC; HGC 0-4 Amsterdam; Hurley 3-0 Kampong; Pinoke 2-2 Oranje-Rood.

For our money, the only question left at the top is who finishes second. Den Bosch are eight from eight with a striker scoring for fun and a defence that doesn’t concede. Catching them looks like a job for next season, not this one.
