Hockey One Round 5: A Grand Final Rematch and a Perth Homecoming to Circle
Hockey One does not waste time. One round ends, and the next one already has a headline act. Round 5 brings a Grand Final rematch and a Perth home game worth circling, and both of them say something about where this season is heading.
The big one is the Tassie Tigers’ trip to HC Melbourne. The two sides met in last year’s decider, and now the Tigers go on the road for the rematch. That is the kind of fixture that sorts out pretenders early. Tassie have made a habit of winning the games that matter, and Melbourne will know that a home win here is a statement, not just three points.
Then there is Perth. The Thundersticks settle into a second straight home fixture at Perth Hockey Stadium on Saturday 7 November, hosting the Brisbane Blaze. Perth come into it on a high after Sunday’s perfect home double against the Melbourne Cobras, with the women winning 4-0 and the men 6-3. A home crowd, a team in form, and a Blaze side that will want to spoil the party. That is a proper Saturday afternoon.
The full Round 5 card is still to be confirmed in our coverage, so we are not guessing at the rest of it here. But the two fixtures we know about already tell the story of the round: a rematch with history behind it, and a home side trying to turn one good weekend into a run. Round 5 is where the season starts to take shape.
