Boston College Spoil Syracuse’s Finale 3-1 as the ACC Bracket Falls Into Place
Boston College picked the right night for their best win of the season. The Eagles beat No. 13 Syracuse 3-1 in Syracuse on Friday, spoiling the Orange’s regular-season finale and heading into the ACC Tournament with real momentum.
Laila Rosenquest opened the scoring just over three minutes in off a pass from Alex De Cain, and De Cain assisted again as Klara Mueffelmann made it 2-0. Caroline Chisholm stretched it to 3-0 just 39 seconds into the fourth quarter, finishing a Madelieve Drion pass, and although Fieve Frenken pulled one back for Syracuse with 2:07 left, her first goal of the season, that was it. Boston College outshot Syracuse 11-5 and 6-2 on goal, and goalkeeper Charlotte Kramer needed just one save in 60 minutes. The Eagles finish 8-9 overall and 3-5 in the ACC; Syracuse finish 9-6 and 4-4.
The result also locked the ACC Tournament picture, which starts Tuesday at Karen Shelton Stadium in Chapel Hill. No. 10 North Carolina, who beat No. 6 Duke 2-1 on Friday, take the No. 1 seed and open against No. 8 Stanford at 10am ET on Tuesday. Fourth-seeded Syracuse meet No. 5 Louisville at 12:30pm, a rematch of Syracuse’s 4-2 win over the Cardinals on October 9. And No. 2 Wake Forest, 5-1 winners over Louisville on Friday, face No. 7 Boston College at 3:30pm. The semi-finals follow on Wednesday, November 4, and the championship game is Friday, November 6, all on ACC Network.
Syracuse are chasing a third straight trip to the ACC semi-finals, and they beat Wake Forest 3-1 in last year’s quarter-final to start that run. But they head to Chapel Hill off a home defeat, and Boston College head there as the team that just beat them. That’s not a bad way to arrive.
