Metropolitano Playoffs: San Fernando Defend the Double as Buenos Aires Heads to the Knockouts

Twenty-six rounds are done. Now the Torneo Metropolitano gets serious.

The Buenos Aires playoffs start this weekend at Parque Olímpico, and the team everyone has to beat is San Fernando. They won the double in 2025, men’s and women’s titles together, and they’ve put themselves in position to do it again.

The men’s quarter-finals are on Sunday 8 November. Mitre face Ducilo, and Ciudad A take on GEBA. The winners go through to the semi-finals on Sunday 15 November, where San Fernando and Banco Provincia are already waiting. San Fernando finished top of the table, seven points clear of Banco Provincia, and both sides go straight to the semis.

San Fernando closed the regular season with a 4-2 win over Santa Bárbara. The final round had goals everywhere. Ducilo beat SAG 6-2. Banco Provincia drew 3-3 with Hurling. Universitario and Ciudad A drew 3-3. Mitre edged GEBA 5-4. Quilmes beat Ciudad B 4-2, and San Martín beat Lomas 3-1.

At the bottom, Sociedad Alemana de Gimnasia and Ciudad B are relegated. Lomas have one more chance. They play BANADE in the A/B repechaje, with the two legs on 8 and 15 November.

The women’s quarter-finals come first, on Saturday 7 November. GEBA play Belgrano, and Italiano face San Fernando. Santa Bárbara finished top of the regular season, five points clear of Italiano, six of Lomas and seven of GEBA, and they go straight to the semi-finals.

Belgrano grabbed the last playoff spot by beating Banco Nación 4-2. San Lorenzo are relegated. The women’s final round also saw GEBA beat River 1-0, San Fernando edge Arquitectura 2-1, and Ciudad beat St. Catherine’s 2-0.

The promotion and relegation repechajes run alongside the playoffs, with two legs on 7 and 14 November. Arquitectura face Liceo Naval in the women’s A/B tie. In Primera B, Regatas Bella Vista are promoted to División A for 2027 after a 2-2 draw with Tristán Suárez sealed second place on 49 points from 26 games, with 14 wins, seven draws and five defeats. Champions Quilmes go up with them after beating GEBA B 3-1.

The finals are on Saturday 21 November. San Fernando know what it takes to win both. Now they have to do it all over again.
