U SPORTS Day 2: Waterloo Face UBC, Toronto Take On UPEI Under the Lights
Day one gave us a draw and a statement. Day two decides who takes control of this championship.
Toronto and UPEI open the evening at 4pm EST at Warrior Field. Toronto drew 1-1 with UBC on Thursday, so they need a win here to keep their final hopes in their own hands. UPEI lost 4-0 to hosts Waterloo in the opener, and that was a harsh introduction. They’ll have had a day to regroup, but another defeat would leave them playing for pride on Saturday rather than a medal.
Then the main event: Waterloo against UBC at 6:30pm EST. The hosts were the story of day one, beating UPEI 4-0 in front of their own crowd. UBC, meanwhile, will feel they let two points slip against Toronto. This is the game that sets the tone for the weekend. If Waterloo win again, they’re all but in Sunday’s gold-medal game with a match to spare. If UBC win, the whole round robin opens right up.
It’s a four-team round robin, so every game carries weight and nobody gets a night off. Waterloo against Toronto follows on Saturday afternoon, and the medal games are on Sunday: bronze at noon, gold at 2:30pm. All of it is streamed live on CBC Gem.
Two games tonight, both under the lights, both with something real on the line. That’s what a championship should look like on day two.
