Customs Beat Guangdong 3-2 in Lahore as Pakistan Sides Win Four of the Tour’s First Five
The missing result from Guangdong’s Pakistan tour is filled in. Pakistan Customs beat the Chinese provincial side 3-2 at the DHA Hockey Stadium in Lahore on Sunday 25 October, according to the tour results table published by Pakera. That’s the one game from the tour that had gone unreported for three days. The preview went up before the match, the Rangers result from Narowal the next day went up too, and Customs in between stayed blank. Now the tour table reads properly: four wins for the Pakistani sides in the first five games, and one win for Guangdong.
It went like this. Mari Energies won the opener 5-2 in Rawalpindi on 20 October. Guangdong hit back the next day, beating Pakistan Army 4-2 in a shoot-out after a 1-1 draw in Islamabad. Navy won 3-1 on Friday 23 October, with Noman Janjua scoring twice. Customs made it 3-2 on Sunday. Then Rangers won 3-1 in Narowal on Monday, Sami, Aamir Sohail and Hammad scoring after Guangdong had levelled at 1-1. No scorers have been reported for the Customs game, and we’re not guessing any.
What the result does tell us is that Guangdong kept every game on this tour close except the opener. They took Army to a shoot-out, they led Navy at half-time, and they lost to Customs by a single goal. That’s a touring side learning on the job, not one being rolled over.
Two games are left, and both matter more than the ones gone. Guangdong play Pakistan’s under-18 side at the National Hockey Stadium in Gojra today, Wednesday 28 October, the young side that matters most to the PHF’s plans. Then it’s Police at the DHA Hockey Stadium in Lahore on Thursday 29 October, before Guangdong fly home on Friday.
The Gojra game is the one to watch. It’s the tour’s youth fixture, the chance for Pakistan’s next generation to test themselves against a Chinese provincial side in front of a home crowd.
