OUA Final Day: York v Toronto for Gold, Waterloo v Guelph for Bronze

Sunday is final day in the OUA, and the matchups are exactly the ones the semifinals set up.

Top-seeded York meet Toronto for gold at 1pm ET, 10pm PKT, at York Alumni Field. York got there with a 2-0 semifinal win over Guelph, Katie Tye scoring from a penalty stroke and Mufarowashe Matambo adding the second. Toronto’s route was just as clean: a 2-0 win over Waterloo, Ava Airnes scoring early in the third quarter and Imke Arndt adding another with three seconds left in the third. Waterloo even pulled their goalkeeper with 5:41 to go and still couldn’t break through.

Before the final, there’s bronze to settle. Waterloo v Guelph goes at 11am ET, 8pm PKT, on the same field. Both sides lost 2-0 in the semifinals, both will feel they had more in them, and bronze here is no consolation prize. The OUA champion advances to the U SPORTS championship in Waterloo from 5–8 November, so Sunday’s winner carries Ontario’s hopes into nationals.

York are the top seed and they’re at home. Toronto have been here before and they defend like it. For our money, York’s home field is the difference, but only just. If Toronto can keep it tight into the fourth quarter, anything can happen.
