OUA Semifinals: York and Toronto Set Up an All-Ontario Final
Sunday’s OUA final is an all-Ontario affair, and both semifinal winners did it the same way: clean sheets, two goals, no drama at the end.
Hosts York got the day going with a 2-0 win over Guelph. Katie Tye opened it from a penalty stroke, and Mufarowashe Matambo added the second in the third quarter. Playing a championship semifinal on your own field brings its own pressure, but York handled it like a team that expected to be in the final.
Toronto followed with a 2-0 win of their own over Waterloo. Ava Airnes got the first, and Imke Arndt struck with just three seconds left in the third quarter to make it safe. Scoring that late in a quarter changes the whole feel of a game. Waterloo went into the final break two down instead of one, chasing a game that was already slipping away.
So it’s York v Toronto for the OUA title on Sunday at 1:00 pm EST (11:00 pm PKT) at York’s Alumni Field, with Waterloo v Guelph playing for bronze earlier in the day at 11:00 am EST (9:00 pm PKT). The hosts against the team that just kept them honest all day. That’s a final worth staying up for.
