Six From Six: Racing Club de France Are Running Away With France’s Elite
Nobody in France can live with Racing Club de France right now. Six games, six wins, and a seven-point cushion at the top of the Elite Hommes. That’s not a good start. That’s a procession.
The latest win was the gritty kind. Away at CA Montrouge, one goal, Arthur Plauche the scorer, 1-0. No fuss. The best teams win these.
Behind them, Saint-Germain did their job, winning 2-1 at Lille through Zéphir Marcille and Arthur Morcrette after Niels Dereumaux had given the hosts hope. But seven points is seven points, and the gap is going the wrong way for everyone else.
The chasing pack had its moments. Le Touquet won 5-1 at Iris Lambersart, Stade Français beat FC Lyon 2-0, and Polo HCM saw off Nantes 3-1. At the bottom, Nantes, Lambersart and Lyon are the three keeping the relegation conversation alive.
This run didn’t come from nowhere. Back in September Racing went to Saint-Germain and won 3-0, Joseph Michaelis, Imanol Balestracci and Auguste Michaelis with the goals, and took the lead alone that day. They haven’t looked back since.
Elite Hommes, the story so far: Racing Club de France 6/6, seven points clear of Saint-Germain. Lille, Montrouge and the rest are already playing for second.
Our take
Racing are champions-elect in October, and that’s a strange sentence to write. But six from six with a seven-point lead is the kind of start that ends arguments. The only real question left is who finishes second.
The French connection: France’s first EHL women’s team, the Leagues hub, and the Live Centre.
