Metropolitano Playoffs Begin Today — Holders San Fernando Defend a Double Crown

The Metropolitano playoffs start today, and the team everyone is chasing is the same one in both competitions.

San Fernando won the double in 2025, and they defend both crowns this year. The women’s quarter-finals are today at Parque Olímpico in Buenos Aires, live on Disney+ Premium. Italiano face San Fernando at 1:30pm local time (9:30pm PKT), and GEBA meet Belgrano at 4:00pm local (midnight PKT).

Santa Bárbara, who finished first, and Lomas, second, go straight through to the semifinals. GEBA, third, and Italiano, fourth, hold the sporting advantage in their quarter-finals, which means they go through on a draw. San Fernando, as a quarter-finalist, have no such safety net. They have to win.

The men’s quarter-finals are on Sunday: fourth-placed Ciudad A face fifth-placed GEBA at 1:45pm local time (9:45pm PKT), then third-placed Mitre meet sixth-placed Ducilo at 4:15pm local (12:15am PKT). San Fernando’s men finished first, seven points clear, and go straight to the semifinals along with Banco Provincia.

How they got here

The last round of the regular season, on October 26, set all of this up. In the women’s competition, GEBA beat River 1-0 in the decisive game, Lomas beat Olivos 1-0 to book their direct semifinal spot, and Santa Bárbara drew 2-2. In the men’s, Ducilo beat SAG 6-2, Banco Provincia drew 3-3 with Hurling, GEBA lost 5-4 to Mitre, and San Fernando beat Santa Bárbara 4-2.

At the other end, San Lorenzo are relegated from the women’s top flight, and Sociedad Alemana de Gimnasia and Ciudad B go down from the men’s.

For our money, the women’s draw is the one to watch. San Fernando against Italiano is a holders-versus-challengers tie with no margin for error, and GEBA against Belgrano has the added spice of the sporting advantage: Belgrano have to win outright, GEBA just have to not lose. In a one-off quarter-final, that changes everything about how the game is played.
