Harvard Stay Perfect, Yale Clinch, Princeton Lock Up the Two Seed: Friday Night in the Ivy League
Friday night sorted out most of the Ivy League in one go.
Harvard are still perfect. The Crimson beat Columbia 4-0, and that’s 13-1 overall, 6-0 in the Ivy League. Martha le Huray, Tilly Butterworth, Lucy Barker and Sage Piekarski all scored. Harvard host the Ivy tournament, and right now they’re the team everyone else is trying to figure out how to beat. Columbia drop to 8-5, 3-3, which still leaves them in the mix, but the title race is effectively Harvard’s to lose.
Yale got the result that mattered most to them. A 2-0 shutout of Penn, both goals in the third quarter, goalkeeper Amelie Schwarzkopf making five saves, and that’s six straight wins and a clinched Ivy League Tournament spot. The scorers weren’t named in the reports we could check, so we’re not guessing at them. The point stands on its own: Yale are in, and they’re arriving in form.
Princeton, meanwhile, took care of business in brutal fashion. 7-1 over Brown, and the No. 2 seed is theirs. Lilly Wojcik, Pru Lindsey from a stroke, Anna Faulstich twice, Molly Nye and Ottilie Sykes did the damage; Kate Siedem got Brown’s consolation, also from a stroke. Princeton are 10-4, 5-1 in the league, and the tournament will be played at Harvard, which suits nobody except Harvard.
The fourth game of the night was the comeback. Dartmouth trailed Cornell 2-0 and won 4-2, four unanswered goals, goalkeeper Kylie McKinley making eight saves. Dartmouth are 5-9, 2-4. Cornell are 5-9, 3-3, and their tournament hopes are still unresolved with games to go.
So the picture is this: Harvard on top and hosting, Princeton locked into second, Yale in, and Cornell still sweating. That’s a good night’s work for one Friday.
