FIH Pro League 2026-27: Full Guide — Teams, Host Cities and the Road to LA 2028

France are in. Pakistan are out. And there’s an Olympic ticket waiting for whoever wins the whole thing. The FIH Pro League returns on 8 December, and the 2026-27 season has more riding on it than most.

For anyone new to it, the idea is simple. The top nine men’s and nine women’s national teams in the world, playing each other in mini-tournament blocks hosted by cities across the season. This edition runs from 8 December 2026 to 27 June 2027 and packs in 144 matches. Win it and you don’t just lift a trophy: the season winner takes a direct qualification route to the LA 2028 Olympics.

Two changes in the men’s field

France come up, promoted after winning the 2026 Nations Cup. Great Britain take the British slot in place of England. The full men’s nine: Argentina, Australia, Belgium, France, Germany, Great Britain, India, the Netherlands and Spain.

Pakistan aren’t in it. Here’s the way back

Now the hard truth, and it needs saying plainly. Pakistan’s men were relegated from the Pro League after the 2025-26 season, so there will be no Pro League hockey for the Green Shirts this season. That hurts. But the road back isn’t closed, and it isn’t even that long. Relegated teams drop into the FIH Nations Cup, and the winner of the 2027 Nations Cup goes straight back up. Pakistan are expected in that tournament, which makes June 2027 the most important month of Pakistan’s hockey calendar. Win there, and Pakistan return to the elite league for 2027-28.

India up, Ireland down in the women’s

On the women’s side, India are the promoted team, arriving after winning the 2026 Nations Cup final, while Ireland drop down. The women’s nine: Argentina, Australia, Belgium, China, Germany, Great Britain, India, the Netherlands and Spain.

From Argentina in December to a very crowded June

The season opens in Argentina from 8 to 13 December 2026, with the hosts facing China in the women’s competition and Great Britain and France in the men’s. Then it’s Valencia, Spain, from 14 to 22 December, where Spain host Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands. February 2027 is busy: blocks in Argentina (9–14 Feb), India (13–28 Feb) and on Australia’s Gold Coast (13–21 Feb). The finish is a huge June, with Wavre in Belgium (12–27 June), Berlin in Germany (12–27 June) and a Netherlands block (15–27 June) all running at once.

SportsCursor will cover this season block by block: results, standings and the Olympic qualification picture as it shifts. Pakistan might be watching from outside, but that doesn’t make this league somebody else’s story. When the Nations Cup comes around, Pakistan’s road back runs straight through everything the Pro League stands for.
