USA’s Indoor Women Host Ireland and Canada in Kennett Square This Weekend
Indoor hockey doesn’t get many weekends like this in the States.
The US Women’s National Indoor Team hosts Ireland and Canada in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania from Friday 23 to Sunday 25 October, a three-team series that USA Field Hockey is running as a straight shootout for sharpness ahead of the next Indoor World Cup cycle.
Indoor is a different sport wearing the same shirt. Boards, no hitting, five-a-side chaos in a small hall, and goals that come in bunches. Ireland and Canada both take it seriously, Canada especially, which is exactly why the US wanted them in the building. You don’t learn much indoor hockey by beating teams you’re supposed to beat.
For fans, it’s also the rare chance to watch national-team indoor hockey live in the US without a passport and a long-haul flight. If you’re anywhere near Chester County this weekend, it’s worth the trip. The pace alone will convert people. The US college game is busy this week too — here’s Tuesday’s round-up, and the indoor pecking order sits on our Rankings page.
