Division III Late Brief: Bryn Mawr Beat Haverford 1-0, Dickinson Strike Late, Hood Run Riot
Wednesday night in Division III kept giving long after the main round-up closed. Here’s everything else that landed.
The story of the night might be at Bryn Mawr. Sydney Dues scored the first goal of her career, a first-quarter deflection, and it was enough: Bryn Mawr 1-0 Haverford. The Owls are now 11-4 and 5-3 in the Centennial, and beating your rivals with a first-career goal is about as good as a Wednesday gets.
Dickinson left it late against Muhlenberg. Gillian Rosenstock’s fourth-quarter winner settled a 1-0 game, and spare a thought for Mules goalkeeper Brenna Fitzpatrick: eight saves and still on the losing side. She’s been one of the best keepers in the division this season and Wednesday showed why, even in defeat.
Goals elsewhere
Hood had no such trouble, beating Albright 5-0 behind two goals from Lillie Kodrin. Widener won the game that mattered most in the MAC Commonwealth, 3-2 over Eastern with Brie Mallozzi scoring the decider. Widener move up to fourth at 3-2 in the conference, which is exactly where you want to be with the tournament coming.
Nazareth broke Keuka hearts with two late fourth-quarter goals to win 2-1 after Paige Bull had put the Wolves ahead. Colby-Sawyer did something similar to New England College, Brooke Farquhar winning it in the 57th minute for a 2-1 away victory.
New Paltz were ruthless in a 4-0 win over William Paterson, scoring in the 19th, 22nd, 34th and 36th minutes. William Paterson keeper Sofia Chebookjian made 17 saves and still conceded four, which sums up her night. And St Mary’s (Md) saved their best for last against Lancaster Bible: three fourth-quarter goals in a 5-1 win, with Josie Mascolo and Olivia Schwendeman scoring two each.
