India 8-0 South Korea: Perfect Five From Five as Dilpreet Strikes Twice in Jalandhar Rout
Five games, five wins, 34 goals scored. India didn’t just protect their perfect record against South Korea on Monday night, they blew it wide open. An 8-0 win in Jalandhar, the biggest margin of their league campaign, and now the same opponents stand between them and the final on Wednesday.
It started early and it never really stopped. Dilpreet Singh opened the scoring in the 8th minute, Jugraj Singh doubled it from a penalty corner three minutes later, and Harmanpreet Singh made it 3-0 from another corner in the 15th. That took the captain to nine goals for the tournament, and the game was already gone.
Korea’s best spell came in the second quarter. They won four penalty corners in a row and threw everything at Krishan Bahadur Pathak’s goal, but nothing went in. Then India hit them again, twice in two minutes. Shilanand Lakra converted a penalty corner in the 33rd minute, Sukhjeet Singh finished a field goal in the 34th, and that was 5-0.
The second half was more of the same. Sanjay scored in the 36th minute, Dilpreet grabbed his second in the 40th, and Angad Bir Singh finished the rout in the 60th minute, right at the death. Hardik Singh was rested for this one, with Vishnukant Singh coming in, and it made no difference at all. This India side just keeps rolling.
For Korea, it’s a strange night to take into a semi-final. They finished fourth on six points, so they get India again in Mohali on Wednesday at 4:00pm Pakistan time, just two days after shipping eight. They’ve beaten Bangladesh and China in this tournament and they know they can play, but nothing in Monday’s game suggested they have an answer for this India attack. For our money, India go to Mohali as the team everyone else wants to avoid, and on this form, nobody’s close.
