ACT Final Table Set: India v Korea and Japan v Malaysia in Wednesday’s Mohali Semi-Finals
Monday did what it was supposed to do. It sorted the order, and now we know exactly what Wednesday looks like in Mohali.
India finished top with a perfect record: five wins, 15 points, 34 goals scored and just five conceded. Japan took second on 10 points after their 2-1 win over Malaysia, Malaysia dropped to third on nine, and South Korea held fourth on six despite their 8-0 defeat to India. China finished fifth on two points and Bangladesh sixth on one, after their 1-1 draw in Monday’s opener, and those two meet again for fifth place.
Here’s the final table in full: India 15, Japan 10, Malaysia 9, South Korea 6, China 2, Bangladesh 1. Every team played five games. India’s goal difference of plus 29 tells you how far ahead they were. Japan’s is exactly zero, nine scored and nine conceded, which tells you something else: they don’t blow teams away, they just keep winning the close ones.
Wednesday’s card in Mohali, in Pakistan time, is a cracker. China against Bangladesh for fifth place at 1:30pm. Then the semi-finals: India against South Korea at 4:00pm, a rematch of Monday night’s 8-0, and Japan against Malaysia at 6:30pm, a rematch of Monday afternoon’s 2-1. Two rematches, two days later, with a final on the line. That’s a brutal turnaround for the losing sides, and a huge edge for the winners, who already know they can beat these opponents.
Thursday brings the medals: the bronze medal match at 4:00pm and the final at 6:30pm Pakistan time. India are the team to beat, that’s not up for debate anymore. The real question on Wednesday is whether Japan can do the double over Malaysia, and whether Korea can find anything at all against a side that just put eight past them.
