Eleven. Surbiton put eleven goals past Buckingham last weekend, 11-0, the kind of scoreline that makes the rest of the league sit up a bit straighter. So what do the fixture gods serve them next? East Grinstead at home, under the lights, last game of the day. Lovely. Women’s Premier Division, Saturday 17 October Why…
Belgian hockey gives you a full Sunday card this week, six men’s games and six women’s games, and one genuinely odd storyline running through both leagues. Léopold. The men’s team are top of the table, unbeaten, 13 points from five games. The women’s team, same club, are bottom with zero points from five. Same badge,…
German hockey doesn’t do quiet weekends, and this one is louder than most. It’s a double round in the men’s Bundesliga, which means every club plays twice between Friday night and Sunday afternoon, and the fixture computer has produced a strange little gift: eight of the twelve games are in Hamburg. UHC Hamburg, Harvestehuder THC,…
Ten minutes. That’s all it took. Blake Govers stepped up for a penalty corner in Newcastle on Friday night and did the thing everybody in the building was waiting for. Goal number 44. The Hockey One men’s scoring record is his now, on his own, no sharing. He’d started the night level with Joel Rintala…
Three games in, and the Dutch champions haven’t won a single one. Rotterdam lifted the Hoofdklasse title in May, beating Amsterdam on aggregate in the final. This season? Three rounds into the Dutch season, the champions have played three and lost three. Rotterdam, who lifted the men’s title last season, sit on zero points with seven scored and eleven conceded. On Sunday they host promoted SCHC at Hazelaarweg, and a fourth straight defeat turns a bad start into a proper crisis. Their losses…
One goal. That’s all Blake Govers needs in Newcastle on Friday night to own the Hockey One scoring record outright. The NSW Pride drag-flicker sits on 43 career goals, level with Joel Rintala at the top of the league’s all-time men’s list. His penalty corner against the Melbourne Cobras in Round One drew him level….
Clear your Saturday afternoon. At 2:05 pm Pakistan time, Pakistan’s under-21s walk out in Johor Bahru to face China, and it’s the start of the biggest week of their young season. They aren’t the only ones playing, either. Australia’s Hockey One hits Round 2 this weekend, the Dutch Hoofdklasse reaches Round 4 on Sunday, and…
Here’s the catch with Irish hockey: you can boss the league all season and still go home empty-handed. In the EY Hockey League, the table only gets you to the party. The silverware gets decided on one spring weekend. How the season actually works The EY Hockey League is Irish hockey’s flagship club competition, run…
Two new names walked into England’s top flight this September, and everyone else is watching to see if they sink or swim. The University of Exeter and Bowdon are men’s Premier Division clubs now. How promoted sides handle the step up is always one of the season’s best storylines. The summit of a big pyramid…
