Mannheim’s Women Stay Top, Harvestehuder Keep Two Clean Sheets: Bundesliga Women, Sunday Results
Two goals all weekend was enough for Harvestehuder. Six points, two clean sheets, and a team that started the season badly is suddenly out of the basement. That’s the charm of a double weekend when your defence holds.
Harvestehuder 1-0 Munich: one corner, job done
Saturday’s 1-0 win over Berliner HC got a repeat on Sunday, another 1-0, this time against Münchner SC. Laura Saenger scored the only goal, a clean flick from a penalty corner in the 26th minute, and Munich never seriously threatened the lead after that. They just don’t carry enough punch up front.
HTHC’s Germany goalkeeper Finja Starck barely had a save to make. “Two clean sheets, that feels good,” she told Dyn afterwards, hoping the knot has finally come loose. On this evidence, it has.
Großflottbek 1-3 Mannheim: the leaders look the part
Mannheimer HC won 3-1 for the second day running, this time at Großflottbeker THGC, and their imports did the damage. Alice Arnott scored in the 8th minute, Laura Bosch in the 10th, and though Franziska Pabsch pulled one back for Flottbek from a corner in the 29th, Juana Castellaro settled it in the 36th.
Coach Sofie Gierts called it her side’s best performance of the season so far. Leaders playing like leaders, away from home, done by the third quarter. Hard to argue with her.
Alster 2-2 TSV Mannheim: bottom side refuse to lose
The day’s best story came from the bottom of the table. TSV Mannheim are last, and they left Hamburg with a point after twice coming from behind at Club an der Alster.
Martina Reisenegger Lillo put Alster ahead in the 4th minute. Wiebke Wahlster equalised in the 35th. Marie Jeltsch restored Alster’s lead from a corner in the 51st, and Johanna Mühl forced 2-2 with a corner of her own in the 58th. Alster took the extra point in the shootout, 3-1, through Johanna Hachenberg, Nele Aring and Taja Gans, with Mühl scoring TSV’s only reply. But the point in normal time belongs to a side that needed one badly.
The Düsseldorf derby and Berlin’s long weekend
Champions Düsseldorfer HC won the city derby 1-0 at promoted DSD, and it was harder than it sounds. Former international Elisa Schmidt-Gräve scored the only goal in the 44th minute. Five points across the weekend put the DHC back up to third. DSD stay tenth, but they made the champions work for every metre.
UHC Hamburg took two points off Berliner HC in the day’s other shootout. It finished 1-1, Yani Zhong (25′) and former UHC player Ida-Marie Köllinger (32′) both scoring from corners, before UHC won the shootout 4-2 with goals from Jule Bloch, Claire Behrend, Zhong and Johanna Seelmaecker. Berlin go home from their Hamburg trip with a single point and stay fifth.
Sunday’s scores: Harvestehuder THC 1-0 Münchner SC; Großflottbeker THGC 1-3 Mannheimer HC; Club an der Alster 2-2 TSV Mannheim (Alster won the shootout 3-1); DSD Düsseldorf 0-1 Düsseldorfer HC; UHC Hamburg 1-1 Berliner HC (UHC won the shootout 4-2).
