France Earn a First-Ever EHL Women Spot as the 2026-27 Line-Up Takes Shape

France are coming to the Euro Hockey League Women, and that is the headline from the latest EuroHockey update.

Following the completion of the EHL Women and EuroHockey Trophy I tournaments last week, the make-up of the qualifiers for next season’s EHL is almost complete, and France are the big movers. Saint Germain finished third and Lille finished fifth at the Trophy I in Vienna, and that is enough to give France their first-ever EHL Women contender in 2027. For a country that has been building its club game for years, that is a genuine breakthrough, not a footnote.

The top of the table stays familiar. The Netherlands remain in top spot following SCHC’s victory, and Belgium stay second in the EHL Ranking Table. Both countries retain two spots in the EHL, along with Germany and Spain in third and fourth place respectively. England and Ireland retain one spot each in fifth and sixth place. That is the core of next season’s competition, and it is a strong one.

One spot is still to be formally confirmed, after the EuroHockey Club Trophy II in Alanya, with Scotland currently in pole position to take that ticket. So the picture is almost complete, with one more door still open.

For France, the wait is over. Saint Germain and Lille did the work in Vienna, and next season a French club will finally get to test itself against the best club sides in Europe. That is how competitions grow: not by invitation, but by results on the turf.
