Wednesday’s Semifinal Card: Rowan Host New Paltz, Stevens Get Misericordia, York Face Widener
Wednesday is semifinal night in the small-college conferences, and three of Monday’s winners already know exactly what’s waiting for them.
NJAC: Rowan v New Paltz, 6 p.m. ET
Top-seeded Rowan (15-4, 7-0 NJAC) host SUNY New Paltz at 6 p.m. ET. Rowan earned a bye through the quarterfinals after a sixth straight NJAC regular-season title, and they’re chasing a sixth consecutive NJAC crown. New Paltz, fresh from that 2-1 win at Kean, are the underdogs in every sense. Rowan beat them 3-0 in the regular season. But New Paltz just won a game they were outshot 22-6 in, so they won’t be overawed by a scoreline from October.
MAC Freedom: Stevens v Misericordia, 4 p.m. ET
Top-seeded Stevens host Misericordia at 4 p.m. ET, after Misericordia’s 4-0 quarterfinal win over Arcadia on Monday night. Madison Lasinski scored twice in the fourth quarter of that one, and Misericordia arrive with a clean sheet and a scorer in form. Stevens are the top seed, they’re at home, and they’ll expect to win. Misericordia’s job is to make it a game for as long as possible and see if the favourites get nervous.
MAC Commonwealth: York v Widener, 7 p.m. ET
No. 1 seed York (14-4, 7-1 MAC Commonwealth) host Widener at 7 p.m. ET. Widener earned the trip with Monday’s 2-1 double-overtime win over Alvernia, Brie Mallozzi scoring the winner in the second overtime period. York, Stevenson and Messiah all finished 7-1 in conference play, with York taking the top seed on the tiebreak, and the other semifinal, Stevenson against Messiah, is covered in its own piece on the site.
The MAC Commonwealth final is Saturday at the highest remaining seed. Win on Wednesday and you’re one game from a title. Lose, and the season is a story about a good run that stopped one step short. That’s what Wednesday is for.
