Metropolitano Women’s Shake-Up: San Lorenzo and Olivos Go Down, Quilmes and Regatas Go Up
The women’s Torneo Metropolitano has finished its 2026 season, and the movement between divisions is now set. At the top, it’s bad news for two big names and a huge moment for two clubs on the way up.
San Lorenzo and Olivos are relegated from Categoría A. They’ll play 2027 in the B. Coming the other way are Quilmes and Regatas Bella Vista, who won promotion from the B into the top flight. That’s the headline swap, and it reshapes the top division for next season.
One rung down, Vélez and San Martín drop from the B to the C, while Andersen HC and CASI climb from the C into the B. Further down the pyramid, Hindú Club, CISSAB, VILO and Ciudad C drop from the C to the D, with River Plate B, AACF Quilmes, San Carlos and Arquitectura B going up from the D. The full list runs right through the lower divisions, with promotion and relegation settled in categories E, F and G as well, and a handful of clubs still facing repechaje ties to confirm their place.
The season isn’t quite over, though. The playoffs are next. The draw was made on Monday 2 November, according to Buenos Aires Hockey, with the quarter-finals and semi-finals set for Parque Olímpico from 7 November. On the women’s side, GEBA face Belgrano and Italiano face San Fernando in the quarter-finals, while Santa Bárbara and Lomas go straight through to the semi-finals. San Fernando are the club to beat: they won the double in 2025, and they’re defending that crown again.
For Quilmes and Regatas Bella Vista, the hard part starts now. Promotion is a celebration for a week. Staying in Categoría A is the real test, and they’ll find out quickly next season whether they belong there.
