Hoofdklasse Round 8: Top-Two Clashes in Eindhoven and Bloemendaal, Plus a Midweek Game in Hand
The Dutch league does not ease back in after a weekend off. Round 8 of the men’s Hoofdklasse on Sunday 8 November throws the top four at each other, and there is a midweek game first that could change the shape of the table before a ball is hit on Sunday.
Start with Thursday 5 November, because it matters. Kampong host Oranje-Rood in Utrecht in the rearranged game both sides still owe the league, which is why they sit on six games played while everyone else has seven. Oranje-Rood are third on 16 points, Kampong fifth on 13. Win it and Oranje-Rood go level on 19 with the top two before Sunday. Win it and Kampong climb to 16 and right into the top-four fight.
Then Sunday. Oranje-Rood host Amsterdam, the leaders, in the standout game of the round. Amsterdam top the table on 19 points with a goal difference of plus 20, Den Bosch are also on 19 but behind on goal difference, and Oranje-Rood are still unbeaten themselves on 16 points with that game in hand. If Oranje-Rood win on Thursday, Sunday becomes a straight fight for first place.
Den Bosch, meanwhile, go to Bloemendaal, who are fourth on 14 points. Den Bosch put eight past Klein Zwitserland in Round 7, and Bloemendaal drew 2-2 with Amsterdam in the same round, so neither side is coming in cold. A Bloemendaal win drags them to 17 points and properly into the title conversation. A Den Bosch win keeps the pressure on Amsterdam at the top.
Elsewhere, HDM host Kampong, Klein Zwitserland host SCHC, and Pinoké host defending champions Rotterdam, who are down in eighth on six points and badly need a win to get their season moving. And at the bottom, Schaerweijde host Tilburg in a game between the only two sides still without a point. Somebody’s season has to start on Sunday.
