Hoofdklasse Round 7 Full Card: Six Games, One Perfect Record, and a Champion in Trouble

Sunday is Round 7 in the men’s Hoofdklasse, and all six games are on the same day. Here is the full card, and why each game matters.

Amsterdam v Bloemendaal, at the Wagener Stadium, is the game of the weekend. Amsterdam have won all six games so far, scored 26 and conceded just six. Bloemendaal are third on 13 points, with 21 goals scored, and they are the last of the top four Amsterdam have to face in this first run of games. A home win stretches Amsterdam’s lead to eight points. A Bloemendaal win cuts it to two and blows the title race open before November is a week old. Last season these two drew 2-2 at the Wagener and Bloemendaal won the return 5-3, so nobody in Amsterdam will be taking this lightly.

Rotterdam v Oranje-Rood is the other game everyone will be watching. Rotterdam are the defending champions, and their title defence has stuttered badly: seventh place, six points from six games, 18 scored and 18 conceded. They lost 4-3 to Den Bosch and 4-3 to Amsterdam, and they have not looked like champions yet. Oranje-Rood, by contrast, are unbeaten in five games on 13 points, with a game in hand. A win in Rotterdam takes them level with second-placed Den Bosch on 16 points. For the champions, this one feels like a must-win already, and it is only November.

Den Bosch v Klein Zwitserland, at Den Bosch, is the game the leaders will be keeping an eye on. Den Bosch are second on 16 points, two behind Amsterdam. Win, and they stay right on the leaders’ shoulder going into the international break in the schedule. Lose, and the chasing pack closes in fast.

Kampong v Schaerweijde, in Utrecht, is a chance for Kampong to build on a solid start. Kampong have 10 points from five games, which puts them right in the play-off conversation. Schaerweijde have had a brutal time against the top sides, losing 9-1 to Bloemendaal and 8-0 to Amsterdam, and they need something from somewhere soon.

SCHC v HDM is the middle-of-the-table game that could easily decide who spends the winter in the top half and who spends it looking over their shoulder. Neither side’s position was confirmed in the sources read for this card, so no claims are made here about where they sit. What is certain is that both need the points, and in a league averaging more than four goals a game, nobody is safe parking the bus.

Tilburg v Pinoke, at Tilburg, rounds out the card, and it is a big one for the hosts. Tilburg are bottom of the table, six defeats from six, two goals scored and 25 conceded. Pinoke will arrive as favourites, but a first point of the season for Tilburg, at home, would change the whole mood around their campaign. Stranger things have happened in this league, and Tilburg’s need is greater than anyone else’s on Sunday.

That is the shape of the league after six rounds. Amsterdam clear at the top on 18. Den Bosch second on 16. Bloemendaal and Oranje-Rood on 13, with Oranje-Rood holding that extra game. Then a gap to Kampong on 10, and Rotterdam down in seventh, already 12 points off the pace. Sunday decides how tight it all stays.
