Spanish División de Honor 2026-27: Season Guide — Terrassa, Polo, Egara and Club de Campo
One town. Several top-flight teams. Terrassa doesn’t just like hockey, it practically manufactures the stuff, and that tells you most of what you need to know about the Spanish game.
Two names, one top flight
Spain’s best play in the División de Honor, and it comes under two names: the men’s competition is the Liga MGS, the women’s is the Liga Iberdrola. Both are run by the RFEH, the Spanish federation, and the 2026-27 season got under way on 12 September 2026.
The men’s División de Honor A has 12 teams, and the list reads like a roll call of Spanish hockey history: Atlètic Terrassa, RC Polo, Club Egara, Club de Campo, CD Terrassa, Junior FC, FC Barcelona, Jolaseta, Atlético San Sebastián, Sanse Complutense, RS Tenis and UD Taburiente. Terrassa alone supplies several of them. Few places on earth live and breathe hockey like it.
The team everyone has to catch
Club de Campo Villa de Madrid won the men’s title in 2026, so they’re the benchmark now. Terrassa, Polo, Egara and the rest spend the season doing the same maths: how do we close the gap on the Madrid side?
The calendar shapes that chase. Like much of European hockey, the season runs from September into spring with a winter break in the middle. On the women’s side, fixtures run from September to November 2026 and resume in March 2027. So the title race is really decided in the spring run-in, and a bad March can quietly undo a brilliant autumn.
Why Spain keeps dining at the top table
Check the rankings. Spain’s men are No. 6 in the world on 3,473 points. The women are No. 5 on 3,089. Both inside the world elite, and both built on players developed in this competition.
That’s the División de Honor’s real job, and it does it well. SportsCursor will track it through the season in the Leagues section, from the Terrassa derbies to the spring run-in.
