Dutch Hoofdklasse men's action

Amsterdam Make It Five From Five as Oranje-Rood Run Riot in Thursday-Night Hoofdklasse

Thursday night under the lights, six games, 36 goals. The Hoofdklasse men squeezed a full round into one evening and it delivered almost everywhere.

Amsterdam just keep winning. 4-1 over HDM at the Wagener, five from five, 15 points. Nobody’s laying a glove on them right now and the gap at the top is starting to look like daylight.

The loudest result of the night came in Tilburg. Oranje-Rood went to the Oude Warande and put seven past the hosts, 7-1, the kind of scoreline that changes how the rest of the league talks about you. They’ve played a game fewer than the teams above them and they’re sitting on 10 points from four. That’s a title challenge, whether anyone’s said it out loud yet or not.

Kampong did exactly what last Sunday’s form said they would. Champions Rotterdam arrived at De Klapperboom hoping their 5-2 win over SCHC was the turning point. It wasn’t. Kampong won 5-3, and Rotterdam are back to being a side that ships goals for fun. Kampong, meanwhile, are the team nobody wants to face: 10 points from four games with the momentum all theirs.

Elsewhere: Bloemendaal edged Klein Zwitserland 3-2 at ‘t Kopje to stay tucked in behind Amsterdam on 13 points. Den Bosch handled winless Schaerweijde 3-1 at the Oosterplas, also on 13. And SCHC and Pinoké shared six goals in a 3-3 that helps neither much. Pinoké are still without a win after five games, which for that squad is genuinely strange.

Round 5 results, Thursday 22 October:

  • Amsterdam 4-1 HDM
  • Bloemendaal 3-2 Klein Zwitserland
  • Den Bosch 3-1 Schaerweijde
  • Kampong 5-3 Rotterdam
  • SCHC 3-3 Pinoké
  • Tilburg 1-7 Oranje-Rood

The table now: Amsterdam 15 (5/5) · Bloemendaal 13 · Den Bosch 13 · Kampong 10 (4 games) · Oranje-Rood 10 (4 games). At the bottom it’s bleak: Schaerweijde and Tilburg both pointless after five. Scores per the league’s official Instagram results graphic.

Our take

Amsterdam are the team to beat and it’s not close. But keep an eye on the Eindhoven side. Oranje-Rood with a game in hand and that kind of firepower are the one result that could make this a race. Round 6 comes on Sunday, and the chasers are running out of time to stay in touch.
