Three Rock Rovers Face a Double Test at the Top With Lisnagarvey and Pembroke in One Weekend

This is the weekend that tells Three Rock Rovers exactly where they stand.

The Rovers’ men have a double-header against two of the sides up at the top of the EY Hockey League with them. First up, Lisnagarvey come to Grange Road on Saturday at 3 p.m. Then on Sunday it’s the trip to Serpentine Avenue to face Pembroke at 2 p.m. Two games, two of the league’s heavyweights, 24 hours apart. There’s nowhere to hide in a weekend like this.

It’s a big ask, but it’s also the kind of weekend that can define a season. Come through it with points in both games and Rovers will have laid down a marker that they’re not just up there, they belong up there. Drop both and the pack closes in fast. The EYHL doesn’t give you a soft landing after a weekend like this either. Everyone in the top half is taking points off each other, so a double-header against the teams around you is worth more than the six points on offer. It’s about who blinks first.

The club’s women have a big one on Saturday too, away to Portrane in the EYHL2 Qualifier at 12:45 p.m. in Donabate. But the men’s double-header is the headline. Saturday at Grange Road, Sunday at Serpentine Avenue. Two top-of-the-table clashes, one weekend. That’s what the EYHL is for.
