Away Day in Germany: Polo, Berliner HC, Mannheim and Crefeld All Win on the Road in Bundesliga
Saturday in the Bundesliga belonged to the visitors. All four games, all four away wins. You don’t see that every week.
Hamburger Polo won 2-1 at Club an der Alster, after a goalless first half. Berliner HC edged TSV Mannheim 3-2, having led 1-0 at the break. Mannheimer HC were the most comfortable winners of the day, 3-0 at Münchner SC. And Crefelder HTC nicked it 1-0 at DSD Düsseldorf, their goal coming before half-time and then holding on.
For our money, Polo’s is the win that matters most. Alster at home are never an easy trip, and coming from a 0-0 half-time to take all three points on the road is exactly the kind of result that keeps a title challenge honest. Mannheim’s 3-0, meanwhile, was the statement of the day, clean sheet and all.
The weekend isn’t done in Germany, of course. Sunday brings the women’s Topspiel between Rot-Weiss Köln and Düsseldorfer HC, the game that closes matchday 9 with second place on the line. But Saturday’s message was simple: if you travelled, you went home happy.
