Weekly Honours Round-Up: Drexel’s Fleur Hamers, Columbia’s Lizzie Adams and Delaware’s MPSF Sweep
The big conferences got their honours out earlier this week. Here’s the rest of the list, and it’s a good one.
CAA: Hamers can’t stop scoring
Drexel’s Fleur Hamers took CAA Offensive Player of the Week after a ridiculous two-game stretch: two goals and an assist in the 5-2 win at Towson, then a hat-trick and an assist in the 8-0 rout of Lock Haven. She leads the whole conference with 16 goals and 37 points.
Monmouth swept the other two CAA awards. Charlie Bowman won Defensive Player of the Week, and Maja Schröder took Rookie of the Week after scoring the winner in the 5-0 win over William & Mary, a result that clinched Monmouth’s 13th straight CAA playoff spot. Bowman also made a season-high 12 saves in the Hawks’ narrow 4-3 loss to No.19 Virginia, which tells you the standard he’s playing at.
Ivy League: Adams carries Columbia
Columbia’s Lizzie Adams is the Ivy Offensive Player of the Week. Two goals against Penn, then two more in the space of 1:31 at Hofstra to win that game 2-1. Columbia are 8-4 and 3-2 in the Ivy League, heading for their first winning season since 2017, and Adams is a huge reason why.
Defensive honours were shared. Princeton’s Ottilie Sykes shut down Cornell after an early goal as the Tigers made it five straight wins, and Dartmouth’s Kylie McKinley stopped 19 of 20 shots across 135 minutes, including 13 saves and a penalty-stroke stop in the 1-0 win at UMass Lowell. McKinley was already named among the NFHCA national players of the week, so the Ivy nod makes it a double week for her.
MPSF: Delaware take both
Delaware swept the MPSF awards. Sarah Rigual scored the winner, with her only shot of the game, in the 2-1 win over VCU as the Blue Hens went 2-0 on the weekend. Lily Cosner played all 121 minutes across both games and scored the overtime winner at Richmond, taking her to 10 career points.
More honours: the NFHCA national players of the week, the Big East weekly honours, and the ACC stretch run.
