No, Paul Revington Is Not Back Coaching England. It’s Zak Jones. It Has Been for a While.
A story doing the rounds this week says Paul Revington has been confirmed as England and Great Britain men’s head coach through to the LA 2028 Olympics. It’s a tidy story. It’s also not true, and the check takes about ninety seconds.
England Hockey’s own site carries the opposite headline, and it isn’t new. Revington stepped down as head coach of the England and GB men “with immediate effect” back in September 2024, after two and a half years in the job that brought a EuroHockey silver in Germany in 2023, Pro League podiums in 2023 and 2024, and a world No. 2 ranking. The Hockey Paper reported the same departure on 27 September 2024.
Zak Jones, his assistant, took over as interim head coach that autumn, led the team through the first blocks of the 2024-25 Pro League season, and was announced as the permanent head coach on 5 March 2025. He’s still the man in the job. England Hockey’s own coverage in January 2026 introduces him, plain as day, as “England and GB head coach, Zak Jones” while he worked with the senior men’s squad at Bisham Abbey.
So where did the LA28 story come from? The only matching official announcement we can find is Revington’s original appointment, in April 2022. Recycled copy has a long life on mirror sites, and an old appointment story with a fresh date stamp on it is one of the oldest tricks in the content-farm book.
To be precise about what we are and aren’t saying: no official source we checked carries any wording that Jones himself has been “confirmed through LA28” either, so we’re not swapping one tidy claim for another. The verified position is simpler. Revington left in 2024. Jones coaches England and GB. Anything you read this week saying otherwise is two years out of date. England’s men sit seventh in the world rankings, and their club season runs through our Leagues coverage.
