Uccle Score Eight as Namur’s Nightmare Goes On: Belgian Hockey League Results
Eight-nil. Uccle Sport put eight past Namur on Sunday, and the worst start in the Belgian Hockey League got worse. Namur have played six, lost six, and shipped 26 goals. Sunday was the heaviest hit yet.
Uccle 8-0 Namur: a long afternoon for the bottom side
There’s losing, and there’s this. Uccle are the league’s great entertainers, 23 goals scored in six games, more than anyone, and they filled their boots against a Namur side that simply couldn’t live with them. The win keeps Uccle fourth on 11 points, close enough to the top three to matter.
For Namur, promoted this season, the numbers are brutal. Zero points, a goal difference of minus 20, and no sign yet of where the first result comes from.
Braxgata 2-2 Léopold: top spot holds, just
Leaders Léopold went to Boom and came away with a 2-2 draw that keeps them unbeaten and top of the league on 14 points. Braxgata will take the point, too. They have a game in hand on the sides above them, sit fifth on 10 points, and a draw with the leaders does their play-off case no harm at all.
Gantoise also drew 2-2, at home to Orée, and Waterloo Ducks drew 2-2 with Beerschot. A day of draws around the top means the table barely moves: Gantoise and Waterloo sit level on 13 points behind Léopold, waiting for the leaders to slip properly.
Herakles and Racing do the business
Herakles beat Daring 4-1 in Lier, a routine home win against the other promoted side, who stay second-bottom with two points. Racing beat Dragons 4-2 in Brussels, and Dragons’ slide continues: one win in six, down in tenth, in the relegation play-off spots on four points. A club of Dragons’ size shouldn’t be looking down this early. They are.
Sunday’s scores: Uccle Sport 8-0 Namur; Braxgata 2-2 Léopold; Gantoise 2-2 Orée; Waterloo Ducks 2-2 Beerschot; Herakles 4-1 Daring; Racing 4-2 Dragons.
Top of the table: Léopold 14 pts (unbeaten); Gantoise 13; Waterloo Ducks 13; Uccle Sport 11; Braxgata 10 (game in hand).
