Amsterdam Hit Eight, Rotterdam Finally Win: Hoofdklasse Men, Round 4 Results

Amsterdam are four from four, and they won this one 8-0. Round 4 of the Hoofdklasse on Sunday was a day of statements at the top and relief at the bottom, where the champions finally got off zero.

Schaerweijde 0-8 Amsterdam: the leaders aren’t slowing down

Eight goals away from home. Amsterdam went to Zeist, scored eight, kept a clean sheet, and stayed perfect at the top of the league. Schaerweijde, promoted back into the top flight this season, have now lost all four of their games and conceded 23 goals in them. There’s a gap between the top of this league and the bottom, and on Sunday it looked very wide.

Rotterdam 5-2 SCHC: champions, finally

Three games, three defeats, zero points. That was Rotterdam’s start to their title defence, and it was starting to look like a hangover rather than a blip.

Sunday fixed the points column, at least. Rotterdam beat SCHC 5-2 at Hazelaarweg for their first win of the season. One win doesn’t repair a start like that, but it changes the mood before Thursday’s Round 5 trip to Kampong. Champions don’t usually stay at the bottom. Now they have something to build on.

The chasers both won away

Bloemendaal won 2-0 at HDM in The Hague, a tidy away win that keeps them in touch with Amsterdam. Den Bosch did it the harder way, winning 3-2 at Pinoké in the Amsterdamse Bos. Pinoké are still winless, two points from four games, and a side with their squad shouldn’t be down there much longer. Shouldn’t be isn’t the same as won’t be.

Oranje-Rood beat Klein Zwitserland 4-1 in Eindhoven, and Kampong won 6-1 at Tilburg. Tilburg, like Schaerweijde, are still on zero points, and they’ve scored once all season on the evidence of the early rounds. Kampong have a game in hand on most of the league and are quietly stacking results.

Round 4 scores: Schaerweijde 0-8 Amsterdam; Rotterdam 5-2 SCHC; Pinoké 2-3 Den Bosch; HDM 0-2 Bloemendaal; Oranje-Rood 4-1 Klein Zwitserland; Tilburg 1-6 Kampong.

Round 5 is a quick turnaround: Thursday 22 October, with Kampong v Rotterdam the pick of the fixtures.
