GEBA Complete the Women’s Semifinal Line-Up as the Men’s Quarter-Finals Take Centre Stage
The women’s semifinal line-up is set, and now it’s the men’s turn.
GEBA beat Belgrano 1-0 in the second women’s Metropolitano quarter-final on Saturday, joining Italiano in the last four. Italiano had already knocked out the holders San Fernando, drawing 2-2 and going through on sporting advantage.
So the semifinals, on Saturday 14 November at Parque Olímpico, are Lomas v GEBA and Santa Bárbara v Italiano. Lomas and Santa Bárbara finished first and second in the regular season and went straight through. The final is on Saturday 21 November.
GEBA’s win was the tight one. Belgrano had to win outright, GEBA only had to avoid defeat, and a single goal settled it. That’s the cruelty of the format, and it’s also what makes it great. One goal, and Belgrano’s season is over.
Now the men take over. Sunday’s quarter-finals are Ciudad de Buenos Aires v GEBA at 1:45pm ART (9:45pm PKT) and Mitre v Ducilo at 4:15pm ART (12:15am PKT Monday). The winners meet Banco Provincia and San Fernando respectively in the semifinals on Sunday 15 November.
For our money, the men’s quarter-finals are wide open. Ciudad finished fourth, GEBA fifth, and there’s nothing between them. Mitre against Ducilo is the same. In a one-off game at Parque Olímpico, form counts for less than nerve.
All the playoffs are at Parque Olímpico, on Disney+ Premium and ESPN.
