Spain Hockey: Terrassa’s Gift to the World Game
Some towns produce players. Terrassa produces hockey itself.
Spain’s national teams keep proving the point at the top level. The men are sixth in the FIH world rankings on 3,473 points. The women are fifth on 3,089. Both sides sit comfortably inside the world’s top six, and both are built on one of the deepest club cultures in the sport.
One league, half a hockey map
That culture lives in the División de Honor, the men’s Liga MGS and the women’s Liga Iberdrola. The men’s top division fields 12 teams, and the roll call reads like a map of Spanish hockey: Atlètic Terrassa, RC Polo, Club Egara, Club de Campo, CD Terrassa, Junior FC, FC Barcelona and more.
Club de Campo Villa de Madrid are the 2026 men’s champions. The 2026–27 season is under way, with matchdays from 12 September 2026 and a winter break built into the calendar.
The production line is still running
Spain’s junior men are third in the FIH junior world rankings, and both Spanish junior teams have qualified for the 2027 Junior World Cups.
Terrassa and the rest aren’t living off history. They’re still producing.
December belongs to Valencia
Next up, Spain take centre stage at home. Valencia hosts a block of the FIH Pro League 2026–27 from 14–22 December 2026, with Spain joined by Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands.
Four top-six nations. One Spanish city. One week. For our money, that’s as good a week of hockey as December offers anywhere, and SportsCursor will be following every match of it.
