Portadown Edge Old Alex 3-2 in the EYHL Women’s Only Finished Game as Saturday Night’s Card Rolls On
Portadown took the points on the road in Ireland on Saturday, beating Old Alex 3-2 in the EYHL women’s league. At the time of the evening check it was the only finished women’s game in Ireland, and a 3-2 away win is never a bad way to spend a Saturday.
Old Alex will be disappointed to lose a home game by a single goal, and Portadown will be delighted to have won one. One-goal games swing on small moments, and on Saturday those moments went Portadown’s way.
The rest of Saturday’s Irish card was still to play when the scores were checked in the Pakistan evening. Queens against Railway Union, Monkstown against UCD and Pembroke Wanderers against Ards were all scheduled, with Pegasus against Loreto the late game at 9:15pm PKT. The men’s EYHL card was in the same boat: Monkstown against Three Rock Rovers, Corinthian against Banbridge, Portrane against Pembroke Wanderers, YMCA against Lisnagarvey and Cork against Avoca were all still scheduled, not finished.
England’s Premier Division was also still to come at that point, with Exeter University against Old Georgians and Oxted against Holcombe the early evening games in Pakistan time, and Cardiff against Reading among the late ones. The Netherlands and Spain, meanwhile, had no top-flight games on Saturday at all, with both leagues back in action on Sunday and next weekend respectively.
So Portadown’s win stands alone for now, and the late scan will have to catch the rest. For Portadown, though, the job is already done: three points, away from home, by a single goal. That’s a good Saturday.
