Towson Close the Regular Season at Home Against Hofstra, Then Spend Halloween at Delaware
Towson have two games left, and the first one is a party. The Tigers host Hofstra at 1pm on Friday for their final home game and final conference game of the season, and it’s the annual homecoming and alumni appreciation game. Admission at the TU Field Hockey Complex is free, and every Towson field hockey alum is invited. That’s a good way to close a home season.
They come into it in form, too. Sunday’s 6-0 win over UC Davis was Towson’s biggest scoring day since 2009, and junior Anouk Westerink’s five points were a career high for the two-time First-Team All-CAA pick. Two senior day honorees, Lydia Bennett and Skylar Santucci, scored, and goalkeeper Riley Redding recorded her third shutout win of the season. Towson led from the second quarter and never let up.
Hofstra arrive at 2-14 with an 0-5 record in the CAA, most recently losing to William & Mary. Their wins this season came over Rider and Wagner. Sarah Smalley leads them with seven goals and 18 points, and Kesia Richardson has six assists. On paper, this is Towson’s game to win, and a homecoming crowd will expect it.
Saturday is trickier. Towson travel to Delaware for a 4pm Halloween game, the second straight year their season has ended on 31 October. The Blue Hens are 8-8 and 2-0 against CAA teams this season, with wins over Hofstra and Fairfield, and Livia Van’t Hek leads them with nine goals and 19 points. That’s a proper test to finish on.
For our money, Friday is about saying goodbye to the home crowd properly, and Saturday is about whether Towson can carry Sunday’s scoring form on the road. Two wins would be a fine way to sign off a season that found its attacking groove late.
