Bhopal Gets Its First Ever International Hockey Tournament as Women’s Asian Champions Trophy Heads to Madhya Pradesh
Bhopal is about to host something it has never hosted before: international hockey.
The Women’s Asian Champions Trophy will be staged in the Madhya Pradesh capital from 19 to 28 November 2026. For a state that has produced Olympians but never staged an international tournament, that’s a genuine milestone, not just a line on a calendar.
The announcement came from Hockey India secretary general Bholanath Singh, in the same interview where he laid out India’s 2030 World Cup ambitions. His theme was consistent: take hockey to every part of the country, and build infrastructure of international standard as you go. Bhopal is the next stop on that tour.
Bihar set the template. It hosted the Women’s Asian Champions Trophy in 2024 and the Men’s Asia Cup in 2025, and now it’s in line for the 2030 Women’s World Cup. Bhopal gets its chance while the men’s game is enjoying its own homecoming in Punjab, where the men’s Asian Champions Trophy is running in Jalandhar and Mohali this week.
What we don’t know yet matters too. No teams, fixtures or squad news for Bhopal were announced in Singh’s interview, and this piece doesn’t guess at them. The dates and the host city are confirmed. The rest will follow, and we’ll cover it when it does.
For Madhya Pradesh hockey, though, the wait is over. Nineteen November can’t come soon enough.
